What it is and how it works.
As we age, our skin naturally develops fine lines and wrinkles. Sun exposure, smoking, alcohol and pollution can all speed this up.
At Tanton Brown Skin Clinic, Isabel, an NMC-registered Independent Nurse Prescriber, offers a treatment option that involves injecting a prescription-only toxin with the aim of minimising and softening fine lines and wrinkles. Her approach aims to soften lines while keeping your natural expression.
How it works
It blocks nerve signals to the muscles in the treated area, causing them to relax. This relaxation helps to smooth out wrinkles and prevent them from becoming more prominent.

Review
A review takes place 2–4 weeks after your treatment and is included in your treatment price. Isabel will check your results, and any additional treatment can be discussed and administered if required.

- Treatment time
- 10–15 minutes (appointments are 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on your treatment)
- Comfort & numbing
- A very fine needle is used. There may be slight discomfort, but it’s generally well tolerated, so no numbing cream is needed.
- Downtime & recovery
- Any swelling, a temporary bump, redness or bruising usually settles within a few days
- Results appear
- Within a few days; optimal results at 2 weeks
- Results last
- 3–4 months; the effects are temporary
- Maintenance
- Wait at least 12 weeks (3 months) before your next treatment. After that, most people repeat every 3–4 months, though some go longer, as everyone is different.
- Before your treatment
- Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours beforehand.
- Come without make-up if possible.
- After your treatment
- Avoid make-up and touching your face for 24 hours.
- Avoid alcohol, UV, extreme heat and strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and facial massages for 2 weeks.
- Other normal activities can resume straight away.

What are the risks and side effects?
Like any medical treatment, it carries some risks, such as a headache, a temporary droop of the brow or eyelid, or slight unevenness. Serious reactions are rare. Tell Isabel about any medical conditions, allergies or medicines at your consultation, and she will go through the risks with you.
What happens if I’m new to this treatment?
Firstly, book a free consultation to assess your needs and discuss your desired outcomes with Isabel. During this consultation the procedure will be explained, including potential side effects and risks. There is no obligation to proceed afterwards. If you decide to go ahead, you can then book your treatment. At the treatment appointment, you will complete a medical questionnaire and a consent form.
Who is a good candidate?
Most healthy adults are suitable. It may not be suitable if you have certain neuromuscular or clotting disorders, or are allergic to any of its ingredients. Please rebook if you are currently unwell.
Treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. All treatments are for clients aged 18 and over. Isabel will check your suitability at your consultation.
