Soft Tissue Fillers FAQs
What are soft tissue fillers?
Soft tissue fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are injectable substances used to restore volume, enhance facial contours, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and scars. They are typically made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body.

How do soft tissue fillers work?
Soft tissue fillers are injected beneath the skin to add volume and lift the targeted areas. The fillers provide support and hydration to the tissues, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and restoring a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

What areas can be treated with soft tissue fillers?
Soft tissue fillers can be used to treat various areas, including the lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, under-eye hollows, and jawline.

What types of fillers are available, and how do I choose the right one for me?
There are different types of fillers available, including those with varying consistencies and longevity. The choice of filler depends on factors such as the treatment area, desired results, and individual needs. During your consultation, Isabel will assess your concerns and recommend the most suitable filler for you.

How long do the results of soft tissue fillers last?
The longevity of results depends on the type of filler used, the area treated, and individual factors. On average, results can last between 3 to 18 months. Maintenance treatments are typically recommended to sustain the desired outcome.

Are soft tissue fillers safe?
Soft tissue fillers are considered safe when administered by a qualified healthcare professional. The fillers used at Tanton Brown Skin clinic are FDA-approved and have undergone extensive testing for safety and effectiveness.

I am considering soft tissue fillers for the first time. What is the process?
Firstly, schedule a complimentary consultation to assess your needs & discuss your desired outcomes with Isabel. During this consultation the procedure will be explained, including potential side effects & risks. There is no obligation to proceed afterwards. If you decide to go ahead you can book your treatment either during the consultation or online afterwards. At the treatment appointment, you will complete a medical questionnaire & a consent form. You will also receive aftercare advice. A follow-up appointment will be planned for four weeks later to evaluate the results & effectiveness of your treatment. During this review the possibility of any additional treatment or "top-ups" can be discussed & administered if required.

What can I expect during a soft tissue filler procedure?
During the procedure, our healthcare provider will cleanse the treatment area and may apply a topical anaesthetic or use a filler with built-in lidocaine to maximise comfort. The filler will be skillfully injected into the predetermined areas using a fine needle or cannula. The process typically takes around 30-60 minutes, and you can resume your daily activities afterward.

Is the procedure painful?
Discomfort during the procedure is usually minimal. Most fillers contain lidocaine, which helps numb the treatment area. Additionally, our healthcare provider can use techniques to enhance your comfort, such as applying ice or using topical numbing creams.

How long does a soft tissue filler treatment take?
The treatment time depends on the areas being treated and the amount of filler needed. On average, the procedure takes around 30 minutes. However, this can vary based on individual factors.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with soft tissue fillers?
While soft tissue fillers are generally safe, potential side effects can include temporary swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, and mild discomfort at the injection sites. These effects typically resolve within a few days to a week. Severe complications are rare but can include infection, allergic reactions, or vascular complications. Our healthcare provider will discuss the potential risks and benefits with you during the consultation.

How much downtime is involved after the procedure?
Most individuals can resume their regular activities immediately after the procedure. However, it is common to experience temporary swelling and bruising, which can be easily concealed with makeup. We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise and excessive heat exposure for a few days following the treatment.

When will I see the final results?
The initial results of soft tissue fillers are visible immediately after the treatment. However, it is important to note that there may be some swelling initially, which can slightly distort the final outcome. The true final results can be appreciated within a few days once any swelling subsides.

Can I combine soft tissue fillers with other cosmetic procedures?
Yes, soft tissue fillers can be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as Botox injections or laser treatments, to achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenation. Isabel will assess your needs and customise a treatment plan tailored to your goals.

How can I maintain the results of my soft tissue filler treatment?
To maintain your results, it is recommended to schedule follow-up appointments as advised by Isabel. Additionally, practicing good skincare habits, protecting your skin from sun damage, and leading a healthy lifestyle can help optimise and prolong the results.
What is a skin booster?
Skin boosters promote a natural glow. They are designed to improved skin laxity, quality, and tone using a series of micro-injections of long-lasting hyaluronic acid throughout the skin. Skin boosters are recognised for their innovative skin hydration from the inside out with results lasting up to 9 months. Suitable for dry skin, fine lines, acne scars, wrinkles and mild skin laxity.

What happens if I'm not satisfied with the results?
We prioritise patient satisfaction. If you are not fully satisfied with your results, we encourage you to schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss your concerns. Isabel will work with you to address any issues and make adjustments if necessary.

What is soft tissue filler dissolving?
All soft tissue filler treatments performed at Tanton Brown Skin Clinic will include free emergency soft tissue filler dissolving. We recognise potential complications associated with soft tissue fillers and although such complications are rare, we have a duty of care to all our customers and have the necessary skills and expertise required to safely manage these complications. We provide soft tissue filler dissolving treatments for those customers that have received treatment outside of Tanton Brown Skin Clinic subject to consultation.

How often should I schedule touch-up appointments?
The frequency of touch-up appointments varies based on individual factors and the type of filler used. Typically, maintenance treatments are recommended every 6 to 12 months to sustain the desired results. Our healthcare provider will provide personalised recommendations during your consultation.

Can I have soft tissue fillers if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
It is generally not recommended to undergo soft tissue filler treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding. The safety of fillers during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been extensively studied. We advise waiting until after this period to ensure the well-being of both you and your baby.

Can I have soft tissue fillers if I have a history of allergies?
If you have a history of severe allergies or allergic reactions, it is essential to inform our Isabel during your consultation. She will assess your medical history and allergies to determine the most appropriate course of action.
