Sculptra FAQs
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable treatment made from poly-L-lactic-acid (PLLA). Unlike traditional dermal fillers that add instant volume, Sculptra works by stimulating your skin's natural collagen production, gradually restoring fullness and improving skin texture over time.

What areas can Sculptra treat?
Sculptra is commonly used to:
Restore volume in the cheeks and temples
Improve the appearance of deep folds and wrinkles (such as nasolabial folds)
Improve overall facial structure and skin quality
It is not typically used for lips, peri-oral or under-eye areas.

How does Sculptra work?
Once injected, the PLLA particles stimulate the body to produce collagen. As collagen levels increase, the skin becomes firmer, smoother, and more youthful. Results appear gradually over several weeks and can last up to two years.

How many treatments will I need?
Most people require a series of 3 treatment sessions spaced 6 weeks apart for optimal results. The exact number depends on your age, skin condition, and treatment goals.

How long do results last?
Results can last up to 24 months. Many patients choose maintenance treatments to keep collagen levels and results consistent.

Is the treatment painful?
Sculptra is injected using a fine needle or cannula, and most formulations include lidocaine (a numbing agent) for comfort. You may feel mild stinging or pressure during treatment, but it is generally well tolerated.

What is the downtime?
Downtime is minimal. Some people experience temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection sites, which usually resolves within a few days. You can return to most normal activities 24 hours after treatment.

When will I see results?
Sculptra does not provide instant results. Improvements usually start to show within 4–6 weeks after the first session, with full results building gradually after the complete course of treatment.

Is Sculptra safe?
Yes. Sculptra has been FDA-approved since 2004 and has a strong safety record when administered by a trained professional. Side effects are generally mild and temporary.

Who is a good candidate?
Sculptra is ideal for individuals who:
Want gradual, natural-looking facial rejuvenation
Have lost facial volume due to aging or weight loss
Prefer long-lasting results without surgery
It may not be suitable for those with autoimmune conditions, allergies to PLLA, or active skin infections in the treatment area.

How should I care for my skin after treatment?
Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days (known as the “5-5-5 rule”).
Avoid excessive sun or heat exposure for a few days.
